About Patti

ooh…where do I start?  I love dancing, music, running, reading, gardening, writing, cooking,  my little cat Spooky, getting together with the best group of friends in the world…I’m blessed in my life, but sometimes forget to count my blessings and focus on the things that aren’t exactly as I’d like them to be…but I’m getting better at looking through the rain and  clouds to see that shimmering rainbow.

I’ve struggled with my weight all of my life…mostly I’ve been overweight…alright…obese…but there have been  periods of time when I’ve been too thin…not as often and not for long periods of time…what I’ve had trouble with is simply maintaining a healthy weight…working on that now…getting plenty of exercise and trying to eat a clean diet…certainly makes me feel better!  Old habits are really difficult to overcome, but I will do it!!

  1. I love your saying “ending chaos, creating balance.”
I see we have a lot in common, except for the running. But it is a goal of mine, to become a runner. I think it’s great that you’re doing it 🙂

    • lol…some of my runner friends would snicker at the thought of me being called a runner…I’m kind of a slogger (slow jogger)…but it still makes me feel good and that’s what I’m really looking for!!

  2. I hear you…Hi Patti. Weight does sneak up on people at times. I work my hardest to work out and eat right, because any major slip up throw on pounds on me, but its just our life. 🙂

  3. I love your blog!
I have also struggled with weight after menopause. You would think as difficult as that was to go through. the reward would be Not having to struggle with weight issues.
    Can’t wait to read more.

  4. Another “Patti with an ‘i!'” 🙂 Also trying to be more fit and eating better. We can do this!

    • amazing how many Patti’s with an “i” there are…yes, we can definitely do this!! I just finished with the exercise bike and strength training this morning…have a lot of errands to do today…then treadmill later today.

  5. While I honestly can’t say I understand your struggle with weight, you seem like a strikingly genuine person, something rarely seen these days. Everyone has their own mountains to slay. Mine has been family and others. You’re not alone so keep blogging!

    • I should clarify: I don’t know how it feels to struggle with the weight issue, and thus I’m not qualified to speak on it. Just know there’s others out there who are fighting their battles and can aid you in yours. Strength in numbers. Strength in numbers.

    • Well, thank you so much! You’re so right, we all have our own issues to deal with…it’s just a matter of doing it~

  6. I get your struggle and am also reached that point in my life where a life change is in order not a diet. I like your blog, glad I found it 🙂

    • Thanks so much…you’d think, after a life time spent dieting, I would have learned long ago that diets don’t work long term, that it has to be about changing how I live my life…small changes make a big difference…we’ll do this, for sure!

  7. I love your honesty and openness! I think that there are many others out there who have the same struggles that you do, and sometimes just knowing that someone else is facing the same difficulties.

    What an inspiring blog! 🙂

    • Why, thank you so much. I appreciate the kind words. I know it does help to feel like there are others who are battling the same war you are…support, inspiration and motivation. Helps us all.

  8. Hi Patti, thanks for your lovely comments and good luck with achieving your goals! Just know that you’re never alone whenever you feel a bit low, it’s only human – we can all learn from your honesty!

  9. Patti, what did you decide to do to lose weight? If you want, you can email me corniegrl@yahoo.com. I’m really interested in knowing what others are doing because I have to lose weight. Do you have any tips? Thanks. 🙂 amy

    • Oh, I’m just trying to eat a healthy (or healthier) diet, more fruits and veggies, less junk…and exercise moderately, walking, biking, strength training, range of motion exercises, stretching…I keep thinking I should start with some yoga…I think, for me, it’s mostly about emotional eating, particularly in response to stress…that doesn’t mean I’ve solved the problem, but at least I’m aware of it. I haven’t managed to lose as much weight as I’d like, I still have a lot, and I do mean a lot, to lose…have you ever tried sparkpeople.com? Great food and exercise trackers, support groups you can join, free online exercise videos…I need to get more active there again…that’s when I really did well…good luck, stay in touch and let me know what’s working for you…you can do it!!

  12. Hey Patti! I read your comment on My Sightline about how you gave up dairy, soda, meat and are now working on giving up processed foods. Congrats girl – that’s awesome! My husband and I have been on a plant-based diet for just over a year, and it’s really changed our lives. We’ve both lost weight and our blood pressure and cholesterol have gone down dramatically. I’m always excited to hear about others going down the same path. I’m happy to meet you and look forward to reading more about you! Celeste:)

    • Thanks for stopping by…I don’t know if I feel any better yet…well, yes I do. The artificial sweetener headaches are gone, so that’s a big plus! As far as everything else is concerned, I’m willing to give it some time to feel the results of my dietary changes.

      • Yea, it takes time to feel better. When I first went plant-based, I actually felt worse for awhile. I have a friend who is a plant-based nutritionist, and she told me that this is normal. Apparently, our bodies detox from the food we used to eat making us feel like crap for awhile (kind of like detoxing from drugs). This can take a long time. Anyway, congrats again!! Celeste 🙂

  13. Way to go! Don’t ever let anyone stop you!
