The long and winding road to fitness, day 153

Indiana Hoosiers men's soccer

I almost wimped out on blogging tonight.  I’m plumb tuckered out (as my grandma used to say)….worked 11 1/2 hours today…going in at 4:30 tomorrow morning.    But I was checking out Facebook and noticed that IU was playing tonight, so turned on the game and figured I might as well write during half time.  Go Hoosiers!!

Today was not a good eating day at all.  Oj and vitamins for breakfast at home, heated up a Lean Pocket a few hours later at work.  Lunch was a burger and fries (I know, I know…I could have just gone with the burger…that wouldn’t have been too bad) from Steak and Shake….I had a couple of small sugar cookies at work and 3 cashews, dinner was a roast beef sandwich on grilled french bread…as you can see, not a lot of veggies today…oh wait…I meant to say no veggies today.  Sheesh…what’s up with that?

Exercise?  Some range of motion exercises for my extremely sore shoulder then a ton of ladder climbing and walking around at work.  I’m exhausted.  Am seriously planning to go to bed very, very soon.  I think the Hoosiers can win without me…

Tuesday

Image via Wikipedia

Whew…thank goodness this day is over.  I only worked twelve hours today…still didn’t get everything done that I wanted to get done.  But someone once said that tomorrow’s another day and I guess they were right.  Another early, 5 am, day.  But I have Tuesday off work, so that’s going to keep me going tomorrow.

I did do strength training and range of motion exercises this morning and walked for 35 minutes.  But I’m feeling the pain tonight.  I did a lot of lifting at work today and my poor shoulder is telling me about it.

My eating wasn’t filled with the highest quality nutrition, but I did come in under my goal as far as calories are concerned, so that’s something.

My eyes are just about to close and who knows what kind of writing that might lead to.  So I’m going to wish everyone sweet dreams and I’ll talk to you in the near future.

Christmas decoration at a shopping mall in Brazil

Wow!!  What a wild day.  Nasty weather, temps dropping, rain and mist all day, windy…brr…definitely not a good hair day…ha!!  And believe me, I sprayed on extra hair spray this morning before I left the house…all to no avail…when you’re outside in this stuff unloading a truck (really, there has to be a better way to do these trucks, if only I could get those bigwigs to listen to me)  there’s no point in worrying about how your hair looks.  And now there’s a frost advisory for tonight…there go my little volunteer grape tomatoes…

Oh my gosh, I just read a blog about one of the healthiest sounding chili recipes…Nikkianne posted this blog and I’m determined to make this recipe for chili…just the way she made it.  I’ve been wanting to make a pot of chili for a while and keep putting it off.  No more…this will be the one.

http://nikkianne.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/cocoa-corn-chili/

My eating was pretty good today.  I was tempted to go out to eat lunch even tho I’d brought my healthy lunch from home.  I think, more than anything, I just wanted to get out of the building and away from people for a while.  But I went back to the break room and nuked my lunch and was satisfied.  Ended the day with five fruits and veggies, so that’s decent.

Other than working the truck and doing some range of motion exercises for my shoulder, I didn’t do any exercise.  Of course, working that truck is constant motion for over eight hours.  And I’ll be right back at it at five tomorrow morning…trying to get some extra work done…ho ho ho, I love Christmas so much!

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I don’t have to buy a lot, but I have already purchased a few things.  Should probably get with that so I’m not doing it any closer to Christmas, you know, going into stores and stuff…I shudder at the thought!

Today was a pretty good day.  I had a lot of work to keep me busy (now that’s funny, when don’t I have a lot of work to keep my busy?) and was able to accomplish a few things on my list…you know, that list that just keeps growing and growing.  As soon as I cross one task off, I end up adding three more.  But we’ll get there, yes we will…

I ended the day with five servings of fruits and veggies, so at least I hit my minimum goal for the day.  I also did core exercises and walked for 20 minutes before work…and then, at work, oh my…up and down that ladder a million times…okay, maybe not quite a million, but quite a few trips up and down the ladder.  It’s kind of sad really, that I’m so short I have to climb at least two steps on the ladder to do things that most people can do from the floor.  It’s not fair, I tell ya!  But really, who told me life would be fair, certainly not my mom.  How about yours?  Did your mom kind of sugarcoat everything or was she more of a realist?

The long and winding road to fitness, day 125

One hundred twenty-five days…and still standing.  Who would have thought that would happen?  And my 125th day was a pretty good day…ended up eating 8 fruits and veggies for the day, so that’s a vast improvement.  I stopped to pick up lunch for my boss and thought about getting something for myself…then realized I’d brought a good healthy home cooked meal for my lunch, no need to buy fast food when I had good food sitting in the fridge just waiting to be warmed up in the microwave.  That’s a step in the right direction.  And I’ve already got tomorrow’s lunch and snacks prepared and ready to go.

Exercise?  Well, I did walk for 20 minutes and did range of motion exercises for that crazy shoulder of mine.  And we did have a truck that it took us about 3 hours to unload and stage, so a lot of walking and lifting involved in that.  So not a bad day for exercise, not the best I’ve had, but not bad.

I was kind of not in a good mood when I first got to work.  I guess I get a little discouraged when I see how much work there is to do and start wondering how in the world we’re ever going to be able to get it all done.  I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s just that time of year when it seems overwhelming, but that we’ll get through it…somehow…

Halloween..it’s coming…what in the world am I going to do for a costume for work?  And why do I always wait until a few days before Halloween to think about it?  Any quick and easy suggestions?

Cards.

A nice rainy day today.  I thought I’d go out and run a few errands, but when I got out there, I just wasn’t in the mood.  So I ended up stopping to get gas then ran into CVS for a couple of things (bought 2 Dawn dish soaps and 1 Natural Instincts, spent not quite $3…had some good coupons and some ECBs to use, not bad).  Then I just came home and enjoyed the rainy afternoon, sat upstairs reading for a couple of hours.  Isn’t that just the best, sitting listening to the rain drumming on the roof, knowing you don’t have to get out in  it?

I did design and order my Christmas cards today.  I’ve never been much of a scrapbooker, but this site just might change my mind…

http://www.michaels.com/on/demandware.static/Sites-Michaels-Site/Sites-Michaels-Library/default/go/midesign/midesign-at-michaels.htm

I designed a Halloween card and then downloaded it to use as my desktop wallpaper…too cute….

I ate a little  better today.  At least I ate several servings of fruits and veggies.  Still had too many calories, but at least the fruit and veggie count was higher than it’s been for the past couple of days.  My only exercise was walking for 20 minutes and doing some range of motion exercises.  I’ve kind of gotten out of the morning exercise habit.  I’ve been going in to work so early that I can’t seem to get enough sleep if I exercise in the morning.  Of course, I had today off, so I can’t really use that as an excuse, can I?

Did I make that chili I talked about yesterday?  Uh…no, no I did not.  Why?  Mmm…because it was a rainy, lazy day?    I did eat soup for dinner though…vegetable chicken noodle…pretty tasty.  Maybe the chili will be on the agenda (and the stove top) this weekend.

You’ve seen the pictures of Spooky wearing her little Halloween costume, well, this shows how she really felt about the whole situation.

The long and winding road to fitness, day 117

Oh my goodness, was I ever glad to get out of that mad house this evening…crazy place!  It felt so good to walk through my front door and be greeted by that  silly little Spooky girl…

Now, before you go nuts thinking I left that poor sweet little kitty wearing a dress all day while I was at work, this picture was taken a while back.  No clothes on the cat today (that I know about…who knows what she gets up to while I’m gone).

Eating today?  Ooh…not so good…did a lot of eating in response to stress today…did I mention how stressful this day was?  I know eating isn’t the best way to handle that stress, but it’s what I did today.   I ended up with only 2 fruits and veggies for the day.   Tomorrow will be better…

I did do core exercises and range of motion exercises this morning before I left the house.  And I did walk for 20 minutes..so at least there was some exercise involved.

Right now a long soak in a hot tub sounds like just about the best thing in the world…and I’m going to be doing that in just a few minutes.  And then…ahh…sleep…I hope.  I woke up last night at 2 am and was awake for about an hour.  I don’t like it when that happens.  It makes it even more difficult to get up when that alarm starts blaring.  I hate my alarm…but I don’t hit the snooze button, isn’t that weird?  When that alarm goes off, I pull myself out of that cozy bed regardless of how much or how little sleep I managed to get.

How about you?  Are a snooze button pusher?

words words words

Oh my word, I am so tired…but I just can’t go to sleep right now.  I am watching Dancing With The Stars, of course.  Yes, I admit, I’m addicted to this show.  Some of the guys at work were talking about watching Monday night football, one of them asked if I watched it.  I looked at him like he was crazy (and I do like football, don’t get me wrong) and told him I watched DWTS.  I don’t think he had a clue what I was talking about.

It was a long, crazy, hectic day at work.  I don’t know why I plan what I’ll be doing over the course of the day.  It never works out that way.  This happens, something else goes wrong, etc, etc…But I have the day off tomorrow so I’m done worrying about work, at least until Thursday.

I had a decent day of exercise.  I did core exercises, range of motion exercises for that sorry old shoulder, and walked for half an hour.  And got in a lot of walking and ladder climbing  and heavy lifting at work today.  I told you I had a fun day!!

My eating was okay.  I ended up not eating my minestrone for dinner tonight.  I don’t know why, it just didn’t sound all that good tonight.  I did drink a glass of oj this evening though.  So a bit of nutrients there.

As I was finishing my daily writing earlier this evening, I realized that tomorrow will put me over 100,000 words…granted not all of them are publishable, but 100,000 words…not too shabby!

Are you sometimes surprised by the accomplishments that seem to sneak up on you?

I had a pretty good day today…well, except for falling in the office…and cutting my arm on a grid…oh, and our early morning truck being over two hours late because the store before us didn’t know they had a 3 am truck (uhh…yeah, I wouldn’t want to remember that either…3 am…that is way too early to have to be at work), and our entire system going down for about 10 minutes (no registers, computers, RF guns…nothing but a lot of customers wanting to check out and us not being able to do anything for them)…Other than that, I had a good day!

My eating was much better.  I took my lunch and ate outside, still enjoying gorgeous weather here.  I ate a bowl of minestrone and a couple of bread sticks for dinner.  Ended up eating four servings of veggies today, still not ideal, but much better than what I’ve been doing.

I did some range of motion exercises this morning before work and then walked for 25 minutes.  So at least I got in a little exercise today.  And of course, I did a lot of walking around at work too…a lot of walking and a lot of lifting.

And the good news is….I don’t have to be at work until 7:30 tomorrow…that’s going to be like sleeping in!!  Hopefully the day will run a little smoother for us all tomorrow.

Cucurbita moschata 'Butternut'. Original descr...

Image via Wikipedia

How pleasant to have a day off work and have the weather be amazingly gorgeous.  I went out to the farmers market this morning, bought a butternut squash and some other cute little squash (I can’t remember the name of it, but take my word for it, it’s cute!). I also bought a bunch of kale to use in my minestrone tomorrow.  Whatever’s left over, I’ll bake as kale chips.  Think I’ll flavor them with some garlic this time.  There were really a lot of people at the farmers market for an October Saturday.  Of course, the weather might have had a little to do with that.

I wanted to go out for a drive and take some pictures, but I just didn’t feel up to it.  I’m still feeling kind of sick to my stomach and tired.  So I decided to just kind of take it easy today.  I went through my coupon files and got rid of all of the expired coupons and cut out the coupons from the flyers that were kind of piling up.  I gathered a bunch to take to work to share with my co-workers.  There are so many coupons that I have no use for, but I hate to just throw them away.  So sharing them with the people I work with is my answer to that.

I hate to admit this, but I did no exercising today other than the walking around at the farmers market, and that was more of a stroll.  Well, I say no exercise, but I guess I can count the range of motion exercises and stretching as something.

My eating was, once again, just okay.  Not enough veggies and only two fruits for the day.  I’ve got to make that minestrone tomorrow to up my intake of veggies.  If I can find the link to the recipe (I’m pretty sure I found it on SparkPeople.com),  I’ll try to post  it tomorrow.  If you like the minestrone at Olive Garden, you’d like this recipe.

I’m going to have to go in to work for a little while tomorrow morning to do payroll (yeah, I guess that’s somewhat important) and exercise my creative abilities (ahem) in putting together an ad board and then send a picture of it to the district manager.  I also need to make sure they do a good job with the ad set.  All in all, I’m hoping to finish in 3 hours or so and then get out of there and enjoy the rest of my weekend off.  Who knows, maybe tomorrow I’ll feel like taking some pictures.

I wanted to share this picture of a pumpkin that our floral designer created as a way to honor breast cancer survivors (and those, like my mom, who lost the battle).  My mom is never far from my thoughts.
