Trip to Amish Acres

Two ways to get there

Well, it’s been a few days since we had our little excursion to Amish Acres.  I think I’ve recovered…maybe.  It was somewhat of a drive and by the time we got there, it was already unbelievably hot.  We walked around and saw lots of great crafts (managed to come away with several good ideas of things to make).  I was able to find the booth of one of our customers (I’ve done several special orders for her, so it was cool to see some of our merchandise in her finished product).

We ended up being so hot and sweaty that we decided to go over by the restaurant and sit in the shade for a while.  But even that was fun.  It had been so long since I’d spent an entire day with my friends, so just sitting and chatting was nice.

The drive home was quite the event.  The GPS lady (Lori has named her Margo) took us on some out-of-the-way route home…we ended up driving through a lot of small towns, many of which we’d never heard of.  It seemed a little greener in the northern part of the state than it is here at home, I’m guessing they’ve probably had more rain than we have.  Saw a lot of interesting barns.  Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures…maybe next time.

Of course I ended up with a sunburn despite using sunscreen with an SPF of 70.  But then imagine how bad it would have been had I not used one at all…yikes~

All in all it was a fun getaway…now I’m looking forward to those fall festivals…with the cooler temps and pumpkin and persimmon everything.

Writing is easy…except when it’s not

Okay, I was feeling pretty good yesterday when I very quickly came up with over 2000 words on my first day of Camp NaNo.  Then today…well, it was a struggle.  I think I eventually managed to come up with something that was okay.  And I came up with a lot that was maybe not quite so good, but that’s the way it goes some days.  After two days, I’ve written 3420 words, so not a bad start.

Just so you know, tomorrow is my trip day (you know, the whole Amish Acres gig), so it’s highly unlikely that I’ll do any writing for Camp NaNo.  I hate to skip a day this early in the month, but hey…it’ll work out by the end of the month.

I have to tell you about something shocking that I saw today.  I was in the kitchen, the kitten hanging around at my feet.  Spook came walking in, walked up to the kitten, and leaned over and sniffed her head.  Then the kitten sniffed Spook’s head before scampering off behind my legs.  Progress?  I’m thinking this could be the start of a beautiful friendship…

Short vacation at Amish Acres

I haven’t really taken a true vacation in a while.  Yes, I’ve taken time off work…sure…but that isn’t really taking a vacation, is it?  Isn’t that just taking vacation time because, well, because you have it.  But some friends and I are driving up to Nappanee in northern Indiana to visit Amish Acres where they will be having one of the best arts and crafts shows I’ve ever been to.  I’m really looking forward to getting away even for just a day.  And I figure I can manage to squeeze out at least two more blog posts about this, so that’s always a good thing.  Note to self…remember to charge battery in camera…my phone doesn’t take very good pictures…

Anyhow, one of our customers is actually going to have a booth at Amish Acres…how exciting is that?  I’ve already looked it up on the map, so I can make sure to stop by and visit…and who knows?  Just may have to buy something.  They make gorgeous wire jewelry…even gave me a pair of earrings a couple of years ago when I placed a special order for them.  I just think it’s kind of cool that I actually know one of the exhibitors at a show this huge!

Why in the world do I not get out and do fun things like this more often?  Anyone want to go to the Covered Bridge Festival with me this fall?

Time for Camp NaNo, August edition…

Wow.  I didn’t realize I’d pretty much taken off the entire month of July from just about any form of writing.  What’s up with that?  Did June’s Camp NaNo wear me out that much?  I don’t really know what happened.  I fully intended to take a few days off then get right back into blogging and working on my book, revision and all that jazz.  Then I got sick, didn’t even go online for several days (I know there are folks who don’t go online every day, I have people tell me that at work all the time…but I’m definitely not one of them…), was still dealing with the kitten and trying to keep Spook from killing her (whose idea was it to get Spook a kitten anyhow?  She was perfectly fine without a kitten, she didn’t want a kitten, she still doesn’t want a kitten), and work…what can I say about work?  Or what can I say about work that I haven’t already said?

So…anyhow…it’s a new month and I’m doing the August Camp NaNo…kind of another book in the same series of books…today was the first day and I got in 2096 words…and some humor at that…do you ever wonder if other people will find what you’ve written to be as funny as you think it is?  I mean, really, I think some of what I wrote today was pretty darn funny, but what if no one else does?  Ah well…I can’t worry about that right now…that’s a worry for much later in the process, right?

I’m back…hopefully providing a little light entertainment as well as sharing my adventures in writing and well, in life, I guess.  Thanks for sticking around while I was on hiatus!
