There’s a reason they call it work

It sure felt like work today (and yesterday and the day before…).  On what was a day off work for a lot of folks, it was another busy day for us.  People rushing through the doors as soon as we unlocked them.  I know we had some good bargains and a lot of people have already started their Christmas shopping, but I’m just not into it yet.

Unfortunately for us, we had a huge delivery today (I know, I know…you might think they wouldn’t send a shipment on a holiday when they know it’s going to be crazy busy.  But, if you happened to think that, you’d be wrong…way wrong.).  The store did not look its best.  It really bothers me when our customers have to run an obstacle course to get to what they want.  I know I hate it when I go into a store and it looks like that.  But that’s another story for another time.

With everything going on, I was exhausted by the time I left.  And, uh, yeah…in more than a little pain as well.  I’ve taken some meds for my pain, but am still fighting it.  I think the weather may be contributing to my increased pain levels too.  They’re talking a little snow tonight.  NO!!  I don’t want snow.  But not a lot I can do about that, is there?  I guess I need to go to bed and try to get a good night’s sleep, but I’m still wide awake.  I’ve got one more day to work before I get a day off.

I know I need to take care of myself, but oh my!  I have so much that needs to be done at work.  It just seems like a lot of, oh you know, work.  I guess they really do call it that for a reason.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone was able to spend some time with family and/or friends today.  We had a beautiful spring day here in Btown…now back to work tomorrow…all good things must come to an end, right?

Believe it or not, Spook wouldn’t eat the bite of ham that I offered her…but she had plenty of her little cat treats to make up for it.   No Easter basket for either of us…guess that old bunny got lost on the way to my house…oh well…I must admit, I did have some Reese’s peanut butter eggs…bad girl.

I hope all of my friends and family that I didn’t see (well, and the ones I did see too) had a blessed Easter.

Kitty costumes…

Nope, not a cat costume for Halloween, but the clothes some of us crazy humans force our poor, unsuspecting cats to wear for our enjoyment (you know it’s not for their enjoyment…they hate it…with a passion)

Unhappy St Paddy’s day kitty…

Miserable Spooky in her Halloween dress…what was I thinking allowing her to have her picture taken wearing a dress that short?

“What is she doing to me?  I am NOT a freaking reindeer…”

Wow!!  What a wild day.  Nasty weather, temps dropping, rain and mist all day, windy…brr…definitely not a good hair day…ha!!  And believe me, I sprayed on extra hair spray this morning before I left the house…all to no avail…when you’re outside in this stuff unloading a truck (really, there has to be a better way to do these trucks, if only I could get those bigwigs to listen to me)  there’s no point in worrying about how your hair looks.  And now there’s a frost advisory for tonight…there go my little volunteer grape tomatoes…

Oh my gosh, I just read a blog about one of the healthiest sounding chili recipes…Nikkianne posted this blog and I’m determined to make this recipe for chili…just the way she made it.  I’ve been wanting to make a pot of chili for a while and keep putting it off.  No more…this will be the one.

My eating was pretty good today.  I was tempted to go out to eat lunch even tho I’d brought my healthy lunch from home.  I think, more than anything, I just wanted to get out of the building and away from people for a while.  But I went back to the break room and nuked my lunch and was satisfied.  Ended the day with five fruits and veggies, so that’s decent.

Other than working the truck and doing some range of motion exercises for my shoulder, I didn’t do any exercise.  Of course, working that truck is constant motion for over eight hours.  And I’ll be right back at it at five tomorrow morning…trying to get some extra work done…ho ho ho, I love Christmas so much!

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I don’t have to buy a lot, but I have already purchased a few things.  Should probably get with that so I’m not doing it any closer to Christmas, you know, going into stores and stuff…I shudder at the thought!

Labor Day, 2013

Labor Day Parade, Union Square, New York, 1882...

Today, despite country-wide protests from workers, President Palin signed an executive order which effectively changes the meaning of Labor Day.  From this day forward, anyone in the work force who earns less than $100,000 per year will be required to work on Labor Day for no compensation.  The president explained her decision about this change…”There are too many people in our great country who are leeches, don’t you know?  It’s time for the people who have been standing around with their hands out expecting businesses to just give them, you know, things like money when they really aren’t doing anything all that special to earn that money, it’s time for those people to help our county by working one day for free.  That money will be put to better use if we allow the wealthy and big businesses to do whatever they want with it.  Our country has always been about business and making money, not about taking care of the poor.  If you remember your history lessons, you’ll remember it was Paul Revere who made the first silver dollar right after he rang the Liberty Bell and  told the British invaders that we had guns and weren’t afraid to use them.  So if  Paul Revere could make money, why can’t all these other people go out there and do the same thing?  This is America, people.  Wake up!  Labor Day is about business, it always has been.  And business is like Paul Revere, interested in making money.  So we will help those businesses make money.  All of those people who have been taking and taking are now going to have to give some back.  That’s what America is about. ”  (wink, wink)

On a side note, when reporters asked President Palin to explain her desire to invade Canada, she replied, “Now you liberal, do-gooders in the media don’t want to talk about this, but you know that there are a lot of terrorists hiding out in Canada.  You might not believe it, but it’s true, just ask my good buddy, Vice President Dick Cheney.”

Bzzt, bzzt, bzzt…is that my alarm? What day is this?  What year is it?  Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, it’s 2011…what a nightmare…

Wow…it’s almost Christmas

I’ve kind of missed the excitement of the holiday season, just plain working too much…but I had today off (as well as the next two days…woohoo).  Still didn’t do anything to enjoy the season…actually took a couple of long naps, ate too much, watched Days of Our Lives and cuddled with my little cat.  Kind of nice to have an entire day without having any kind of expectations.  Tomorrow I’ve got to get to the grocery store for a few last minute things…think I’ll go early (I still wake up early on my days off) and get back home before the hordes descend on the stores.  I’ve had enough of crowded stores…

Battling a little bit of depression this year.  Not getting together with my brothers and their families and not going to get to see my step sister‘s kids either…once they all grow up they have so many other obligations that I’m not always able to arrange my schedule to match theirs.  Sure not like Christmas‘s past when we all got together, the kids were little, my mom was still alive and we made Christmas a family event.  Definitely miss my mom…it’s been 20 years, but I still miss her…she was really what kept our family together.  But, I guess it’s true, the only constant thing in life is change, and we all have to do our best to adapt.

I’m looking forward to getting the junk out of my house, getting back with my fitness program and doing some serious decluttering…that’s something I really have to stay on top of and I haven’t for the past few months…looks like there will be several trips to make donations.  I find living in a less cluttered home helps me lose weight and not be depressed…some kind of connection there for sure.  I’ll plan my weekly missions later (I typically tackle one area at a time, getting rid of  a set number of things each day that I work and a different amount on the days I don’t work).  Getting back to a normal routine will help me get back to losing weight and I definitely need to get the weight lost…I’m going to do it and I’m going to keep it off!!
