Camp Nano, day 1

Words have a power all their own

Well, had to go to work earlier this morning than I’d planned, so no writing this morning.  But going in earlier meant I got out earlier.  So, after stopping at PetSmart (and spending way too much money for fancy, schmancy cat food for little Spooky), I came home, threw a load of laundry in, cooked some fish, then sat down to see what I could come up with on my first day of camp.

In a little over an hour, I’d written over 2,000 words.  I caught myself going back and changing things a couple of times.  Had to remind myself this is about getting the words out, that I can revise later.  After I finished, I did go back and read what I’d written…and it’s okay…nothing earth shattering, but I thought there were a couple of places that were pretty good.  Of course there are several places that need a lot of work, but still…it’s a start!

This is definitely different from writing a post for my blog.  With the blog, I’m always trying to be careful not to write too many words, trying to keep it somewhat brief…don’t want folks thinking is this EVER going to end??  With the story though, it gives me a lot more leeway to build the descriptive aspects of the story or the dialog…kind of cool to be able to write more than I might otherwise write.

I’ve got to do the dishes and a few other chores, thinking I might just find the time to get in a few more words tonight…camp is pretty darn fun so far…after just one day!!

    • A party sounds like fun though…I have to work all weekend so I’m going to try to get some writing in during the evening each day…I like the added motivation to write…guess that’s what I needed~
