The long and winding road to fitness, day 13

Wow…day 13, that’s awfully close to two weeks, isn’t it?  I really am feeling better.  I attribute most of that to working out, setting goals and doing what I need to do to achieve them.  Whatever the reason behind it, I am excited  to be feeling so much happier.  I still have a lot (seriously a lot) of weight to lose, but I’m on the road working toward that and I know I’ll get there.  There will likely be some twists and turns, some detours, some traffic jams and maybe even a crash somewhere along the way…but I’ll keep moving forward!

I had to work again today, another crazy day full of activity, but it went well.  I got a lot done (can never get everything done that I want/need to, but such is life) and am now looking forward to a peaceful weekend off.  I’m going to get in a little extra exercise, walk to the farmers market, do some gardening and a little housework (my favorite).  It’s nice to be able to just do what I want for a change, with no deadlines and no drama.

Today I consumed 1674 calories, rode the exercise bike for 15 minutes, walked for 15 minutes (in addition to all of the walking and ladder climbing at work), did core work, 7 exercises, 2 sets of each.  I’m so happy that I’ve been able to rebuild the habit of daily exercise.  The next time I’m tempted to stop, I’m going to come back here and reread my blogs (and everyone’s comments) to remind myself of how much exercise can improve my life.

So, how did you all do today?  Have you ever stopped doing something even though you enjoy it and it’s good for you?  Seems kind of silly, when it’s worded like that.  Why would anyone stop doing something that they enjoy and that makes them feel good?  But I think we’ve all been there. Sometimes our busy lives get in the way.  Once we stop, it’s just easier to sit on the couch than to go outside for a walk or pick up those dumbbells.  You know, the whole body at rest thing…The key is to keep these old (and not so old) bodies moving…let’s do it!

  1. Unusual cloud formation, for sure! At least the sun was up this morning when you left. 🙂
    When my exercise routine gets interrupted for vacation, illness, or whatever else, it is hard for me to get back into it. I’ve been working closely with my doctor on high cholesterol and triglycerides, so I’ve become more focused on getting the recommended cardio done each week. Knowing my inability to keep the exercise going when on the road, I’m preparing ways (workout dvds I can use on my laptop, e.g.) to overcome that obstacle. It feels good to have a plan. Today I worked in the garden; had an apple w/peanut butter dip for breakfast, grilled zucchini, Vidalia onion and mixed sweet peppers for lunch, and got an acai berry boost smoothie for dinner. I like adding the calories on fruits and veggies! (small numbers)
    What kind of store do you work in?

    • Sounds like you’re working hard to get your numbers down…I love smoothies for dinner, quick, easy and full of fruit and veggies…I sometimes throw in a handful of spinach. People think that sounds awful, but you really can’t even taste it. I work at a national arts and crafts store as the assistant manager…working on getting my own store to run…not sure if that’s a good thing or not…lol

  3. I love scenic views of the sky in the a.m. or p.m. and I have many in my collection to prove it! And yes I haven’t exercised since my efforts to neaten the yard. I must stop using what that experience did to me as far as exercise goes in a good sense and a bad one.

    There is a change in my energy level when I tackle the Treadmill for any length of time and before we start our ritual of preparing for the 4th of July backyard events…I will go at least 10 minutes. 🙂
