The long and winding road to fitness, day 2

Dried fruit and nuts on a platter, traditional...

It was a hectic day at work today, but I managed to resist the temptation of the vending machine!!  The thought of a bag of chips did cross my mind, but then I reminded myself of what I was working toward…health and fitness.  And the thought flitted right out of my mind!!

I got up at 4:30 this morning so I could get in some exercise before work…rode the exercise bike for 10 minutes, walked for 10 minutes, did lower body strength training (4 sets) and then walked 10 minutes at lunch.  I also did about 5 minutes of stretching…I should do another 5 minutes or so tonight closer to bed time…we’ll see how that goes.

I had the same breakfast as yesterday.  Lunch was quinoa and black bean salad and a bowl of cooked apples.  I had a snack in the morning of 1 cup of grapes and 1 serving of string cheese.  I had my own “trail mix” for an afternoon snack (Wheat Chex and dried fruit, sometimes I throw nuts in it too, but didn’t do that today).  Dinner was a bowl of soup and 1 slice of rye bread.  I also have to admit that I did eat a Ghiradelli dark chocolate square.  I find that I can eat dark chocolate and not feel like bingeing..probably because I don’t like it as well as I like the milk chocolate…Finished the day with 1743 calories, so right within range for the second day in a row…woohoo!!

So how did everyone else do today?  Did you stick with your plan?  Get in a little extra exercise?  Cook something healthy?

  1. I’ll give myself a medium rating, no gold star for me. I’ll give you a gold star! Great day, Patti!

I didn’t overeat. The food I cooked was okay. I doubt that it will make me gain, but I’m not sure that I will wake up any lighter. Ha! Blessings to you…

    • Sounds like you had a good day even though you didn’t consider it a gold star day…not overeating, cooking healthy…heck, that alone should be worth some kind of a star…any day where I don’t overeat is worthy of celebrating…lol

  2. Got on the treadmill for 10 minutes (hip pain). Plan to do this in 5-10 minute increments until I reach the 50 mark. Vegetable plate (+ for me). Due to my insomnia…the wee hours of the morning will be my challenge. I’m foraging now to pack a fruit plate that will be positioned next to me while I’m reading my internet articles. I’m going to do this!!!

    • It’s always tough to get the exercise in when you’re battling pain, but you did it!! I like your idea of gradually increasing your time on the treadmill. Insomnia…don’t you just hate that? I woke up earlier than I’d planned this morning and was just wide awake…figured I’d just get up and get a little workout in and get online for a while. Now it’s almost time to get ready for work…yippee!!

  3. Calorie intake 1090, so I have room for a few animal crackers. 🙂 I’m using to track my food intake, and am allotted 1284 calories. (Trying to get off the plateau, but at least I’m not gaining!)
I did 10 mins. on the elliptical and 35 mins. on the recumbent bike.
Dark chocolate seems to be more satisfying to me. Yay for passing on the chips! Patti 1, Vending Machine 0

    • Wow…great day for you, Patti!! I use to track my nutrition and fitness…isn’t it nice to be able to just enter everything and have somebody else do all of the calculating? Today’s another day to take another step down that road toward better health and fitness. Do you have your own fitness equipment at home?

      • If my calorie intake were 1090, I must have forgotten to eat! Good for you, Patti. Ah, you are both Patti. 🙂 My calorie count is probably much more like yours, run4joy59. I am challenged by your lean cuisine and self control, pattisj. I must cut it down a bit. A bit. 🙂 This is kind of fun. I’ll have to look at those websites you guys use to calculate your calories. I’m scared to know the truth!

  4. I ran yesterday! I am hoping to do it again today! Keep up the good work. It takes 28 days to create a habit!

    • Good for you!! How long have you been running? I was running this time last summer and absolutely loved how it made me feel(well, okay, how it made me feel when I was done). I’m definitely going to get back to running!
